Using your responses to the "Treasured Traditions" handout you received in class (a copy of which is attached to this page), write two paragraphs (or more) about your Christmas traditions. Type them into a Google Doc titled "[student #] Christmas Traditions" and put it into your student folder.

Feel free to also copy and paste your paragraphs into a new blog post if you would like. This part is completely optional, of course.

Caritas Post

Now that you've written your Caritas Journal in a Google Doc, I want you to choose one topic to write a paragraph about. I will add each student's paragraph to my camp blog, Miss McMillan Goes to Camp. Write your Caritas Post in a Google Doc and place it in your student folder.

Write about your favorite moment, something that was very meaningful to you, how Caritas helped you learn more about yourself, or perhaps answer one of the four prompts that we had at the camp Celebration. If you're stuck for what to write, please let me know.

Caritas Journal

Caritas Journal - In a Google Doc, describe everything you remember about your week at Caritas. This will be a minimum of five paragraphs, so start right away while it's still fresh in your mind. If you weren't at Caritas, you will write about everything you did during your week. (due Friday)

Our Traditions Project

In writing about your favorite family tradition, please consider the following questions:
  • What is your favorite tradition?
  • On what day does this event take place? Is it related to a religious holiday?
  • Where is it usually held? Do you have to travel far to get there?
  • Why do you like it?
  • What's your favorite part?
  • What do you do for this tradition? If there’s food involved, what food is included?
  • When did your family first begin this tradition? Is it fairly new or generations old? If it’s been going on for generations, does that make it more special/important to your family?
  • Do you know who first started this tradition?
  • Who participates? How many people generally attend? Is it just immediate family that’s involved in this tradition? Extended family? Friends? Neighbors?

The Presentation

Our ideas for how to share this tradition with everyone:
  • To type it then leave space in the middle for a picture, but wrap the words around it.
  • Drawing a picture. Creating a border. Adding color. Decorating according to the tradition.
  • Get pictures from the last time you celebrated
  • Diorama, drawings, pictures,slide show
  • Make a book with a picture on one side and the writing on the other.
  • Put a picture on the top of your paper and one or two at the bottom to keep visual interest.

Questions:
  • Can we change the color of the font?  Yes.
  • Can we change the font type? Yes.

You Matter

posted Sep 19, 2011, 4:20 PM by kmcmillan@ctkschool.org   [ updated Sep 19, 2011, 4:23 PM ]

Open a Google Doc and title it "[student number] You Matter". Here is the prompt that was on the board this morning:

You Matter! What are your thoughts about this phrase? How do you feel when you say "I Matter"? Do you think it's important that people feel that they matter? Why?

In your Google Doc, respond to the prompt in at least one paragraph. Be sure to add your document to your student collection (which will then share it with me).
