Birthday Saints Blog Post

posted Feb 9, 2013, 8:08 PM by kmcmillan@ctkschool.org   [ updated Feb 11, 2013, 6:50 AM ]
Now that you've given your saints presentation, I’d like you to write a blog post describing the life of the saint you researched. As you are writing this as a biography, remember to write this post using the third person (in other words, no "I" statements). To begin, embed your Google Presentation in the blog post. Then, in two to three paragraphs, tell the story of this person. Remember to include as much of the following information as is applicable:
  • a brief biography which should include:
    • an explanation of why they became a saint
    • when and where they were born
    • education
    • their life’s work and/or mission
    • death of the saint
  • the feast day for this saint (what day of the year does the church celebrate this saint?)
  • at least one thing you admire about this saint
  • patron saint? (is he or she the patron saint of something or someone?)
This post will be due on Wednesday, February 20th. After you’ve written your post, I would like you to comment on at least one of your classmates’ posts.

Embedding Google Presentations in Kidblog

Follow these instructions in order to embed your Google Presentation into a blog post on Kidblog. To begin, you'll need to make sure that your presentation will be visible for everyone to see.  With your presentation open, click on the "Share" button:

Select "Christ the King Catholic School":

Next, you'll need to publish your presentation in order to get the embed code. Click on "File" and then "Publish to the web."

In the next pop-up window, click on "Start publishing":

The next window will contain the embed code that you will need. Click once within the box that contains the code in order to copy it.

In a second window, start a new blog post in Kidblog. The default setting for new blog posts is "Visual", which is just another way of saying WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). You will need to click on "HTML."

Paste the embed code into the blog post, but don't click "Publish" yet! You need to make a minor adjustment to the size of the presentation. If you were to use the settings below (width = 960, height = 749), your presentation would be much larger than the space on your blog.

So, we're going to change the size of your presentation as follows:

Change the width to "500" and the height to "400". Be sure to only change the numbers; everything else should remain the same. When you're finished, click "Preview" to make sure your presentation looks okay. Or you can just click on "Publish" if you're ready to go.
